Incubated in Greenhouse, this is the brainchild of an art teacher, Deva Watson, who works part-time as a restaurant server.
She wanted her students to have a fine dining experience and learn how creative and fulfilling culinary careers can be.
The children begin their journey in a world-class museum looking at famous still-life paintings. They then visit the restaurants of several acclaimed chefs and join them on a tour of their kitchens. As guests of the chef, the children are served the chef’s signature dish for lunch and then sketch a tableau of the meal in preparation for their final artwork project. Also during their visit, they learn about the chef’s career path.
After several weeks working on a series of still life projects in various media, they celebrate the unveiling of Les Choix du Chef – each chef’s favorite piece of children’s art. The winners are feted at a special sit-down brunch and reception, where their original artwork is exhibited. The celebration honors the artists, as well as the chefs, photographers, food stylists and designers who donated their time to the program.
