Home Depot – sharing elbow grease and good vibes

Folks at Home Depot encourage volunteerism. It’s in their DNA. It’s even one of the corporation’s core values.

Still, talking with staff from the Ridley Park Home Depot who came to Fresh Artists recently, you come away feeling impressed.

Karen told us, for example, that their next project is rehabbing the house of a veteran in the Ridley Park area, building a ramp to provide easy access for a wheelchair. “We believe in caring for our neighborhood,” she said.

Team Depot, as they call themselves, showed up at the Fresh Artists studio last week and demonstrated some of their positive energy. They also had a lot to say about their first impressions of Fresh Artists.

Zach told us he was texting his wife from the East Falls studio to tell her what he was learning about Fresh Artists. “It’s an awesome organization!” She texted back, “I know all about them!” Nice to hear the word is out there.

Will said he’s excited to see where this [Fresh Artists] is going. “I have this sense,” he said, “that it’s going to grow exponentially.

He told us that photography is a hobby of his and that he values the role of arts in people’s lives.

“Not everyone is good at words,” he said. “Art helps capture a bigger message.”

Store manager Bernie Motley had a long conversation with Barbara in which she shared some of her 17 years of retail experience. Maybe there are ways we can help, she said.

We like that kind of thinking. Goes with Will’s comment about growing exponentially.

How many children could we reach if we had more good friends like this???
