"A Is For Art Museum" Mini-Masterpieces program launches

  • Fresh Artists A Is for Art Mini-Masterpieces

NEWS FLASH!

Because of the popularity of this project, the deadline for submission has been extended to Monday June 8th, 2015 at midnight for online uploads and 5pm for Studio drop-offs.

We are delighted to invite districts or K-12 schools with populations of at least 70% qualifying for free and reduced-price lunch to participate in the 2015 Fresh Artists Mini-Masterpieces Memory Game design project. The Philadelphia Museum of Art is partnering with Fresh Artists to produce a memory game companion to the Museum’s hugely popular young children’s book A is for Art Museum. This new Fresh Artists Memory Game will be the sixth edition in our award-winning series of intergenerational family box games that were originally the idea of a 3rd grader in a Fresh Artists' workshop!

KIDS’ ART HELPING OTHER KIDS!

For this project, we invite your students to create their own interpretations of works of art featured in this popular children’s book. One student’s interpretation of each of the 26 works will be chosen to be reproduced as a 2 x 2 inch tile in the finished memory game. The selected student and their guardian/parents will receive a letter from Fresh Artists inviting them to donate the use of a digital image of their artwork and will be asked to sign a license agreeing to allow the artwork to be part of the Fresh Artists Memory Game. The children will get their originals back to keep!

The Memory Games will be used in the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Education Department activities and be sold in the PMA shop as well as other stores and museum shops throughout the country. All proceeds from the sale of the Fresh Artists Memory Games and any other products featuring the children’s licensed artwork are used to deliver art supplies and innovative art programs (like this one!) to schools with severe cuts in arts funding. It’s kids helping other kids! We like to say to youngsters, “your art can come off the fridge and go to work helping to keep art in our public schools.”
